Accidental fire in Akola police armoury

No casualty or injury was reported following a sudden misfire from a revolver kept in the armoury section of district police headquarters here on Sunday noon, the police said.
Police constable Kailas Choudhri, who is posted as the bodyguard of additional district superintendent of police Nikesh Khatemode Patil, had come to deposit his revolver and 10 live rounds before proceeding on a month’s leave. He handed over his revolver to the in charge of armoury Gajanan Dhore who tried to remove the magazine that was jammed. During this, Dhore accidental pressed the trigger resulting in the misfire.
A round got fired and struck the wall of armoury leaving a hole in it.
Additional SP Patil confirmed that Choudhri had gone there to desposit his firearm. Yet, he said an enquiry would be conducted in the matter and those found guilty will be punished.
The misfire caused sensation in the entire district police department. This is the second such incident in Maharashtra.
