Transformer catches fire in Gurgaon’s South City
Updated: 2015-05-05-03:12
A transformer caught fire in South City 1 on Monday, two weeks after fires were reported in the same place.
The transformer that caught fire was located between two others, but luckily, the fire did not spread to the rest, averting a major disaster.
Vijay Pal, a resident of South City 1 who lives opposite the transformer wing, noticed smoke coming out of the transformer at 11.28 am. He immediately called the fire department in Sector 29.
A fire tender was rushed to the spot within seven minutes. The firemen first disconnected power to all the transformers and then doused the flames. By 11.50 am, the fire was under control.
“A short circuit in the wiring is said to have caused the fire. The partially burnt unit used to supply power to Saini Khera village. As a result, supply to the village was affected during the day,” said I S Kashyap, senior fire officer in Gurgaon.
