Four injured as petrol pump catches fire at Nizampura

Four persons were injured after a petrol pump caught fire in Nizampura area of the city on Sunday evening.
S R Patel petrol pump and CNG station of Indian Oil Corporation caught fire after one of its CNG cylinders exploded following a leakage. Four members of the staff were injured in the fire that broke out at around 4 pm. Radheshyam Pandit, Hansraj Jhala, Sarfarz Patel and Jagdish Vaniya were rushed to Chhani-based Shreeji hospital for treatment of their injuries. Hospital authorities said all the patients sustained first degree burns and are out of danger. Pandit suffered 70 per cent burns, Jhala 20 per cent, Patel 40 per cent and Vaniya 50 per cent burns.
Fire brigade and 108 ambulance services rushed to the spot. The fire was doused within 20 minutes by the firemen.
“Immediately after receiving the call, eight fire vehicles were dispatched. The CNG station, which is part of the petrol pump, had stock of both petrol and diesel. However, timely fire fighting prevented the fire from spreading and causing major harm,” said chief fire officer H J Taparia. The fire was caused after a leak in one of the CNG cylinders at the station, he added.
