P80M in property destroyed in Iloilo warehouse fire

Some P80 million in property was destroyed in a fire that hit the warehouse of a shopping center in Iloilo province late Wednesday night.
The fire started a few minutes before midnight at the warehouse along Roosevelt Street in Santa Barbara town, GMA Iloilo reported Thursday.
No one was reported injured in the fire that firefighters placed under control at about 3 a.m. Thursday.
It took the security guard some time to report the fire to the local fire department because there was no telephone inside the warehouse.
The guard had to ride a bicycle all the way to the fire station.
A separate report by RGMA Iloilo’s Melanie Ferrer said 16 employees sleeping at the shopping center’s staff house managed to evacuate.
Investigators are verifying information an electrical short circuit may have caused the fire.
The warehouse contained school supplies, shoes, houseware and appliances. It is owned by one Wilson Tan.
