Four, Including Two Children, Died In Accident At LPT2 Terengganu

HULU TERENGGANU, May 24 (Bernama) — Four people, including two children, were burnt to death while one person was badly injured and another suffered slight wounds when the car they were in caught fire after a collision with a cargo lorry at Km 386.6 of the East-Coast Highway Phase 2 (LPT2) here at 4.30 pm Sunday.
Those who died were the driver of the car Ahmad Razi Harun, 53, Dayang Suhana, 23, Umar Rayyan Suhaimi, six, and Nur Damia Irdiha Rosailan, one, who were all in the car.
The other two victims were Hafshah Wangai, 56, (who was badly injured) and Sharifah Wangai, 49, (slight wounds). They were outside the car when the incident occurred.
They were believed to be travelling from Kota Baharu to attend a convocation ceremony at Politeknik Muadzam Shah in Pahang.
Hulu Terengganu District Police Chief DSP Hussin Deraman said the incident was believed to have occurred after the 16-tonne cargo lorry driven by Fazly Othman, 35, from Kuala Terengganu heading to Johor Bahru skidded before colliding with their Kia Spectra car which was parked in the emergency lane after it stalled.
“Soon after the lorry collided into it, causing both vehicles to catch fire,” he said when met by reporters at the scene of the accident.
He said all the victims who were injured were sent to the Hulu Terengganu Hospital for treatment and the bodies were also sent there for autopsy.
Meanwhile, Operations Commander for the Hulu Terengganu Fire and Rescue team, Mohd Zamri Omar said 10 crew-members from the Hulu Terengganu Fire Station were sent to the scene to extricate the charred bodies of the victims.
He said following the incident, 70 per cent of the front of the lorry was burn while the car was totally burnt.
