DHANKUTA: Property worth over Rs 10 million was gutted when a fire ripped through seven houses in Belhara VDC in Dhankuta on Friday night, police said. According to locals, the fire started at about 10:00pm from the house of local Bal Bahadur Shrestha before spreading to neighbouring houses. Three hotels, four grocery shops and a pharmacy operating from those houses were also damaged in the blaze, which was doused hours later with the joint efforts by fire brigades from Dharan and Damak, security personnel and the locals.
Meanwhile, Chief District Officer Ganesh Prasad Adhikari informed that the fire victims have been provided with relief materials like clothes, tents and food by the District Natural Disaster Committee and Red Cross Society’s district office.
