BANKE, MAY 21 – A man from Jaisapur-1 in Banke locked his brother’s children in their room and set it on fire on Tuesday morning.
Police said Saddam Nau doused the room with petrol, locked the door with his two nephews and a niece inside, and set it on fire. Five-year-old Mariyam, three-year-old Riyajul and 10-month-old Rihan sustained severe burn injuries in the incident. Their mother, Chanda, was also hurt while trying to rescue her children.
Chanda said the villagers came and rescued the children after she shouted out for help. The victims were taken to Kathmandu after their treatment was not possible in the district. Police have arrested Saddam along with his parents for investigation.
Saddam told police he was angry at his brother Riyaj after the latter repossessed the hair salon he had been operating in Dolpa district.
Police said Riyaj had sold the salon to Saddam on a condition that he paid Rs 5,000 every month. After Saddam failed to make regular payment, Riyaj had repossessed the salon.
