Kolabagan explosion leaves seven of a family burnt

An explosion at Dhaka’s Kolabagan has left seven of a family with burns.

Police and Fire Service could not say what led to the explosion at 29, Lake Circus early on Saturday.

Kolabagan Police Station OC Mohammad Iqbal said he suspected that a gas pipe leak triggered it.

Fire Service control room Inspector Syed Monirul Islam also suspected a gas pipe leak as being responsible for the explosion.

The seven persons of the family who sustained burns were admitted to the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital’s Burn Unit, Inspector Mozammel Haque of the police camp at DMCH said.

They were identified as Mamtaz Begum, 60, her son Mohammad Sumon, 28, his wife Reshma Akter, 22, son ‘Rabbi’, 10, Sumon’s sister ‘Rosy’, 35, and her son ‘Ayon’, 20, and daughter ‘Bithi’, 14.

Kolabagan Sub-Inspector Nizam Uddin said WASA officials were conducting development work in the area.

“A tin-shed building caught fire after a sudden explosion in the morning,” he said.
