Car catches fire in Kuala Belait

A CAR caught fire after its engine restarted near the Teko roundabout in Kuala Belait yesterday.
The Kuala Belait Fire Brigade received a 995 emergency call at 1.47 pm alerting about the accident and sent a team to handle the situation.
Arriving at the scene five minutes later, the fire fighters immediately put out the fire.
According to preliminary investigations made by a fire prevention officer who was at the scene, the fire was caused by the malfunction of the primary fuse box located in the bonnet of the car.
Md Nur Azman bin Hj Abd Wahab, the driver of the saloon car, said while he was on the way to the hospital where he was working, the engine stopped with all the caution indication lights turned on.
“I tried to turn the engine on but there was black smoke coming out of the bonnet followed by flames,” he added.
The fire continued for about 15 minutes until Fire and Rescue Brigade personnel extinguished it.
The car suffered damages in the fire worth $7,000, according to the Fire and Rescue Department.
