JASIN, June 2 (Bernama) — Three people were killed, two of them burnt to death, in an accident involving three vehicles at Km192.3 of the North-South Expressway (north-bound) near the Ayer Keroh toll plaza here early today, police said.
Jasin District Police chief DSP Muhd Nur Hishamuddin Hashim said the trio, whose identities had not been verified yet, were the driver and passengers of a Proton Saga car that caught fire in the accident which occurred at 2.30 am.
“A preliminary investigation found that the car, which was heading from the direction of Johor Baharu to Kuala Lumpur, is believed to have skidded at the location.
“The bodies of the driver and a passenger were burnt while the other passenger died after he was flung out of the vehicle,” he said when contacted by Bernama.
He also said that another vehicle, a Perodua Myvi car, carrying three people and heading in the same direction, tried to avoid the Proton Saga car and overturned, while an Audi multi-purpose vehicle, also with three people in it, failed to avoid the Proton Saga and collided into it.
Muhd Nur Hishamuddin said the impact of the collision caused the Proton Saga and the Audi to be hurled about 200 metres and both vehicles caught fire.
He said the six people in the Perodua Myvi and Audi managed to get out of their vehicles in time.
“The six suffered slight injuries and were taken to the Melaka and Jasin hospitals,” he said.
He said the three bodies were sent to the Jasin Hospital.
