Updated: 2015-06-06-09:34
A fire of undetermined origin hit a plastics factory in Santo Tomas town in Batangas province Friday afternoon.
No one was initially reported injured in the fire at Shing Hung Plastics Co. Inc. at the First Philippine Industrial Park, radio dzBB reported.
Thick smoke from the fire was visible even from the South Luzon Expressway, as shown in a photo posted by GMA News’ Ruth Cabal.
Investigators are still determining what caused the fire, which started at 4:20 p.m. and reached the fifth alarm before it was put out at about 10 p.m.
P200M loss?
While arson investigators have yet to estimate the loss to property caused by the fire, a report on Taiwan’s Central News Agency said the fire may have destroyed P200 million.
It said the Taiwan-invested plant produces plastic injection molds and has operated in the Philippine for many years.
