30 People Displaced By Fire In Jalan Chan Sow Lin

KUALA LUMPUR, June 10 (Bernama) — Thirty people, including 10 Indonesian workers, were displaced by a fire which destroyed a row of seven squatter houses in Jalan Batu 3 1/2, Jalan Sungai Besi, Off Jalan Chan Sow Lin near here Tuesday night.
The fire, which broke out about 7.30 pm, also destroyed an office nearby.
Cheras district police chief ACP Chong Kok Sin said preliminary investigation revealed that the fire was believed to have started from the kitchen of a house which was occupied by a 80-year-old man.
He said the wooden structure of the house made the fire spread fast to the other six houses, which were occupied by six families.
The fire was put under control at 10.50 pm, he said in a statement Wednesday.
Chong said no loss of life was reported in the fire which caused damage, estimated at RM600,000.
According to Chong, the houses were built on land belonging to Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) and some of the families had been staying there for 30 years.
