At least 50 shanties burned in Narayanganj slum fire, one injured

A person was burnt and more than 50 shanties were gutted by a fire at a slum in Fatullah, Narayanganj.
Md Momtaz Uddin, deputy director of Narayanganj’s Fire Service, told bdnews24.com the fire broke out around 11:30pm on Thursday night.
The slum is situated next to depots of Meghna Petroleum Limited and Jamuna Oil Company Limited near the old Dhaka-Narayanganj highway.
Eight units of the Dhaka and Narayanganj fire services tamed the blaze around 12:30am on Friday after an hour’s effort.
Parts of Chandra Sen’s body was burnt. He was admitted to Khanpur Hospital.
Another five were hurt while trying to put out the fire but were released after first aid.
Fatullah police OC Asaduzzaman told bdnews24.com: “People panicked as the fire broke out close to the fuel depots. They were relieved when fire services managed to put out it out.”
The fire fighters could not say how the fire started, but locals said it had spread quickly and gutted more than 50 shanties.
