There was a minor fire which broke out at Mumbai’s Taj Mahal Hotel in Colaba on Tuesday afternoon.
BMC disaster management officials informed that they received a call around 3.52pm on Tuesday. “A short circuit occurred in the basement of the hotel. However the authorities at the hotel themselves were able to douse the flames before the fire brigade reached the spot,” said a civic official.
However two fire engines were pressed into service, they said.
When contacted, Taj Hotels Resorts and Palaces director, public relations spokesperson said there was maintenance work going on in the basement of the hotel which caused a bit of smoke.
“BEST technicians, while undertaking routine maintenance work on the BEST electrical panel, noticed some sparks, which resulted in smoke. Since the electrical panel is located within the premises of the hotel, the hotel team assisted them in controlling the smoke and disconnecting the supply. The fire brigade was called in as a precautionary measure. The situation is back to normal with no material damage or harm to any employee or guest.,” she added
No casualties were reported in this incident.
