Two Injured In Early Morning House Fire

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 3 (Bernama) — Two of seven family members were injured when their two-storey house went up in flames in Taman Lembah Keramat, here, on Sunday.
In the incident at about 5am, Ahmad Ismail, 64, and his son-in-law Abd Syukur Abdullah, 38, suffered burns on their hands when they tried to escape down the ladder placed by their neighbours at the balcony of their house.
Ahmad’s other family members, namely his wife Latifah Mohd Yusof, 60, daughter Nurul Shuhada, 37, and three grandchildren, Nurul Shafikah Zulaika, 9, Nurul Shahira Zuhaira, 7, and Nurul Shafiyah Zufaira, 4, were not injured but breathless after a lot of smoke inhalation.
His eldest son Muhammad Zulhelmi, 37, who lives separately, said his brother-in-law, Abdul Syukur, who realised their house was on fire had awoken all of them.
The family members who received treatment at Kuala Lumpur Hospital were reported to be in stable condition, he said at the hospital, today.
Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue assistant director (Operations), Azizan Ismail said they received a distress call at 5.09am and arrived at the scene about 13 minutes later.
“Twenty firefighters from the Ampang, Pandan Indah and Keramat Fire and Rescue stations were dispatched to the scene.
“The fire was put out at 5.36am and we managed to save two houses adjacent from the one that was razed. We are still investigating the cause of the fire,” he said.
