MELAKA, Oct 23 (Bernama) — The bodies of two little girls were found huddled together under a bed, in an attempt to protect themselves from fire which razed their house at Tanjung Minyak, here today.
Melaka Fire and Rescue department deputy superintendent, Kamarulzaman Mohd Din said the burnt skeletal remains of Nur Maisarah Balqis Rosghazali, 7, and her sister Nur Qalisha Balqis, 6, were discovered by firefighters at 5.55 pm.
He said the victims’ father Rosghazali Shapie in his 40s, was rescued by members of the public after he fainted due to smoke inhalation while trying to rescue the girls.
“We received a distress call at about 5.38 pm and the fire was brought under control by 6.20 pm,” he told reporters when met at the scene here today.
Initial investigations revealed that the fire was believed to have started in the middle room and 70 per cent of the house were destroyed.
Kamarulzaman said when the fire broke out the victims’ father was outside the house while their mother, a nurse was working abroad in Saudi Arabia.
He said the remains of the siblings were taken to Melaka Hospital and their father was also rushed to the same hospital for treatment.
“The actual cause of fire and losses incurred are still being investigated,” he said.
