Elderly woman dies in Phimai fire

Flames light up a house in Phimai, Nakhon Ratchasima, as it is destroyed by fire early on Monday. The body of an elderly woman was later found inside, but six other members of the family escaped.
A 63-year-old woman was killed and six other people injured by a fire that razed a house in Phimai district of Nakhon Ratchasima province early on Monday, police said.
Three fire engines were rushed to the two-storey house at the Thung Len Thong community in the Phimai district town after the fire began about 1.10am.
They managed to bring the fire under control in 40 minutes, during which six people managed to get out of the house.
Three of them sustained back and leg injuries after jumping from the second floor. Three others – a husband, his wife and their seven-year-old son – suffered minor burns after running out of the burning house from the ground floor to safety.
After the fire was doused, the body of a woman was found in a room on the second floor. She was Lai Loypimai, 63, the owner of the house. She had died from smoke suffocation.
Police were investigating the cause of the fire.
