Updated: 2015-10-20-01:00
Two days after a leaking gas cylinder sparked a fire at Parksite in Vikhroli, four continue to be critical with over 80% burn injuries.
Paan shop owner Lalji Chauhan’s entire family is being treated for varying degree of burns at two civic hospitals. His wife Vimal (50) and niece Sapana (13) are battling over 85% burns at Kasturba Hospital. Doctors said both are “very critical”.
Chauhan’s sons Ankit (17) and Saurabh (10), admitted to Rajawadi Hospital in Ghatkopar with 30% and 20% burns respectively, are stable.
Chauhan’s neighbour Santosh Shinde, who sustained injuries while trying to save the family, is also “very serious”, said doctors at Kasturba. Passerby Devman Singh (45), who had jumped in to save those engulfed by the flames, is critical at Sion Hospital. Singh had sustained a head injury too.
