Three family members perish in early morning fire

Three members of a family, including a male senior citizen, were found burnt in a fire involving three houses at Lorong Bunga Raya, No 18 Taman Bunga Raya Kepayan, early yesterday.
Sabah Fire and Rescue Department public relations unit head, Mohd Affendy K Ramin said the charred remains of Yong Vy Keong, 70, Chong Fui Yuen, 50, and Peter Yong, 30, were found at different locations in the house, where the fire was believed to have started.
“The fire station received a distress call at 1.09am and five engines with 26 firemen rushed to the scene. On arrival, they found three houses on fire,” he said in a statement yesterday.
He said the second house was partially burnt, while the third house had its ceiling damaged.
Four vehicles which were parked at the scene were also destroyed in the fire, he said, adding that the department was investigating the cause of the fire and losses incurred.
