Updated: 2015-10-26-13:27
Two ATM machines and two cash deposit machines were gutted along with some cash and other machinery when fire broke out at the hi-tech e-corner of the State Bank of India (SBI) at MVP Colony on Sunday morning. The fire reportedly sparked from an electrical short circuit.
No causalities and injuries were reported, but the bank officials estimated the loss to be around Rs 1.5 crore.
According to reports, the fire broke out at around 2 am on Sunday when the owner of the building N Subrahmanyam Sastry and his family members were asleep in the first floor of the two-storied building. When thick smoke engulfed the building, Sastry and his family members ran out and alerted the fire service personnel and police with the help of the security guard of the e-corner.
District fire officer J Mohan Rao said two fire tenders were used for nearly two hours to douse the blaze. Rao said their teams are investigating to ascertain the reason for the fire mishap. Sources said Sastry’s car parked outside the building also was burnt partially. The CCTV cameras at the e-corner were also damaged in the fire.
Fire service department officials said they have started an investigation to ascertain the exact cause for the fire mishap.
The police said that the incident has trigged panic among the residents in the area.
