Fire guts ‘pink house’ of the Lopez family

The famous “pink house” owned by the Lopez family at La Paz district, this city, was gutted down by a fire Sunday evening, which also resulted in the injury of a firefighting volunteer and an unnamed guest of the house.
Senior Fire Officre 1 Erwin Gimotea of the Bureau of Fire Protection – Iloilo City said the fire started around 10:45 p.m., while a dinner sponsored by the Lopez family was going on.
At least 10 fire trucks responded and were able to put off the fire two hours later. The BFP-Iloilo City identified the injured volunteer as Kenneth Navarro of the Federation of Iloilo Fire Brigade.
Members of the Lopez family have also opted to keep mum on what triggered the incident, but initial investigation revealed the fire could have been due to a short circuit in the house’s electrical wiring, allegedly starting from the ceiling of the second floor.
The fire quickly spread to other parts of the house, which had a concrete wall with the rest made of wood. Initial investigation pegged the damage to property at P10 million.
The house, owned by the late vice president Fernando Lopez Sr., had drawn public attention after pink has been made a predominant color around its facade.
