Updated: 2015-10-28-11:30

A moving car caught fire on Tuesday afternoon in Phase 7, Mohali.

No one was injured in the blaze.

The incident took place when the owner of the car, Vipin Sharma, and his parents were coming from their residence in Phase 3B2. As they stopped at Phase 7 traffic light point, the engine of the car caught fire.

However, the occupants were remained unaware to the situation and as they reached NRI wing, Vipin saw fire reaching the driver’s door. A passerby too alerted them about the fire. Vipin immediately stopped the car and all three escaped from the burning vehicle.

After getting out of the car Sharma dialed fire station but by the time fire tenders arrived at the spot, the car had turned to ashes .

“Actual cause of the fire is not known. The reason will be known once thorough checking is done. We have to wait for the lab reports,” a fire official said.

Car expert in Sector 28 Jaitnder Kumar said, “It is not an unusual incident. These things happen when electrical short circuits, engine oil leak and sometime unauthorized service dealers wash the engine. They sometimes leave loose connections. The actual reason will be revealed after getting the laboratory report.”
