Man dies in shop fire at Nanganallur

A 30-year-old man was burned to death on Friday after a watch shop on fourth main road in Nanganallur caught fire following a short circuit.
Police said Velmurugan of old Perungalathur, employed as an assistant, was working inside the shop when around 1.30pm there was a short circuit. He tried to switch off the mains but was trapped inside the shop. Auto rickshaw drivers in the vicinity tried to douse the flames by throwing buckets of water but by then Velmurugan had died. Police said the man suffered 90% burn injuries and died on the spot.
In a separate incident at Red Hills, a welder who was electrocuted while working. Police said Sayed was working on a lorry when the incident occurred. Police moved the body to the Kilpauk Medical College and Hospital for postmortem.
