Project Executive Killed As Car Catches Fire

BUKIT MERTAJAM, Nov 5 (Bernama) — Factory workers watched in horror when a project executive was burnt to death when the car he was in, caught fire in Perusahaan Perai here early today.
At the height of the blaze, Ong Che Kheng, 41, who was in the driver’s seat of the Proton Waja tried to shift to the front passenger seat but in vain.
Seberang Perai Tengah police chief ACP Rusli Mohd Noor said the factory workers tried to extinguish the fire with the aid of a fire extinguisher.
However, he said, they failed as the fire spread fast and engulfed the car in flames at Jalan Lorong Perusahaan 6 in the incident at 12.45am.
“Witnesses said Ong, who was in the driver’s seat, shifted to the front passenger seat to get out of the car but failed.
“The fire which was believed to have started from under the car, destroyed the interior of the vehicle and two rear tyres,” added Rusli.
He said the car was believed to have belonged to the company where Ong, from Skudai, Johor was employed.
Ong’s remains were sent to the Seberang Jaya Hospital.
