He said three other people who also suffered burns were Mariam Lingkok, 66, Mohd Salleh Misnan, 50, and Azhar Onong, 32.

Seven firemen rushed to the house in a truck after receiving a distress call at 11.37 pm and found the house completed razed. The fire was put out at 2.05 am, he added.

In another development, Mohd Affendy said Kota Kinabalu firemen rescued a man who had wanted to leap to the ground in a suicide attempt from the fourth floor of a hotel here early today.

He said 20 firemen arrived at the scene at 7.37 am and rescued the man at 9.07 am.

Kota Kinabalu police chief ACP M. Chandra said initial investigations found that the man, who did not have identity document, lived in Jalan Sepanggar and had family problems and suffered from stress.
