Truck catches fire on highway
Updated: 2015-11-04-09:20
Traffic on the Vadodara-Ahmedabad Expressway was stalled for sometime after a truck caught fire on Mahisagar Bridge.
The fire brigade doused the blaze within 30 minutes and traffic resumed normally. “We believe the fire was triggered due to overheating in the wire system. The flames spread rapidly making it difficult for commuters to cross the bridge. The road remained congested for over an hour,” said fire officer Om Jadeja. The truck contained bathtubs, wash basins, wooden objects and paper waste. Around 12,000 litres water to douse the fire.
The truck was going towards Goa from Morbi .
This is the second incident of fire disrupting traffic on highway. On August 18, traffic was affected on the national highway 8 near Karjan after a tanker ferrying transformer oil caught fire when a car rammed into it near a restaurant.
