11 rescued from fire-hit building on SG Road

A team of Ahmedabad fire and emergency services (AFES) evacuated 11 persons trapped on the 12th floor of a building on Prahladnagar Road late on Wednesday night. AFES officials said the fire started in an electric cable duct from a short-circuit and the flames and smoke spread from the basement to the 12th floor of the building.
According to AFES officials, they got a call about a fire at Titanium City Centre on Prahladnagar Road at 12.05 am. The message said about 15 people were trapped on the top floor due to the fire, six fire fighting vehicles and tankers, along with a hydraulic snorkel rushed to the spot.
Rajesh Bhatt, additional chief fire officer, AFES, said that while one team started dousing flames, a second investigated the source of the fire and a third team started approaching the people trapped on the 12th floor.
“We learned that the fire began in an electric cable duct and spread from there. Due to the lack of proper ventilation, smoke had started spreading on almost all floors. We had to break the glass exterior of the building to release smoke and increase visibility,” he said.
Sources said that the rescued people worked at a business process outsourcing firm. Two of them, were hospitalized by paramedics for smoke inhalation.
