Updated: 2015-11-07-22:48
One person died when a fire broke out at a house in Faiq Enclave, Baradari, on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday. Family members claimed that valuables worth Rs 50 lakh were also gutted in the incident. Exact reasons for the fire are yet to be ascertained.
The fire broke out around 2 am when most of the family members were fast asleep. The deceased has been identified as 55-year-old Shamshuddin, a businessman. The family has also alleged that the fire must have been the result of an explosive item thrown by some unidentified miscreant in the house’s rooftop. Police also suspects a short-circuit in the invertor that might have triggered the fire.
According to sources, the incident came into light when one of the members woke up and raised an alarm. While everyone else escaped the house, Shamshuddin, a father of two daughters, could not come out of it. His body was found near the staircase.
“Marriage of both daughters was scheduled in January and preparations were in full swing. We sold out a piece of land only a day before and the entire money was gutted in the fire.”
Confirming reports, inspector, Baradari police station, Mohammad Qusim, said, “Investigations are going on and we are yet to ascertain exact reasons behind the mishap. The body has been sent for post mortem. A major mishap was averted as three gas cylinders too were kept inside the house and luckily none of them caught fire.”
