Woman dies in flames in tragic crash

An apparent car chase in Phnom Penh’s Russei Keo district ended with one woman burned to death after the vehicles veered into a small shop selling gasoline, which burst into flames.
District police chief Teang Chansa said the cause of the accident was still unclear, and authorities were investigating whether the husband of the woman – who was in the car’s passenger seat – had been driving at the time of the accident.
Chansa identified the dead woman as En Na, 24, of Tuol Kork district, but said no relatives had come to claim her body yet.
“For this case, we are evaluating it in order to find the root cause, so we cannot make a conclusion about this accident yet,” he said.
Russei Keo district authorities said that based on witness accounts of the accident, the 2007 Toyota Camry in which Na had been riding was chasing another Camry when both vehicles veered into the small gasoline shop, which erupted in flames, engulfing Na’s car.
The witnesses said the car’s driver fled, leaving Na behind, and that the fire was too intense to rescue Na from the vehicle. The shophouse was also burned down in the ensuing blaze.
