Two workers die in restaurant fire

NEW DELHI: A major fire broke out in a restaurant in the diplomatic area of Chanakyapuri on Thursday, killing two people. According to the police, at least four others have been injured in the fire, which was caused probably due to a short circuit. A case has been registered at the Chanakyapuri police station.
According to Delhi fire chief A K Sharma, it was an “accidental” fire and the restaurant owners had taken the basic precautionary measures. The incident took place when the beverages section of the Lazeez Affaire restaurant at Malcha Marg Market caught fire. Around six employees of the eatery were sleeping at the back section when the fire took place.
The deceased have been identified as Rakesh Singh (20) from Teeri Garhwal in Uttarakhand and Ravinder Pal (35) from Basti district in Uttar Pradesh. “There are no burn injuries on their bodies, so we believe that they died due to asphyxiation — inhaling of carbon monoxide. A case of negligence under Section 304A of the Indian Penal Code has been registered,” additional commissioner of police (New Delhi), Sanjay Tyagi said.
The incident came to light when a roadside sleeper noticed the flames and made a PCR call at 3.50am. While some victims were rushed to Safdarjung Hospital, others were taken to Ram Manohar Lohia hospital. All the four victims are said to be out of danger.
