Updated: 2015-11-21-09:20

People living near Amitnagar Circle in Karelibaug woke up to a massive explosion that led to fire in a commercial complex on Thursday morning. An LPG cylinder exploded in an office in Dwarkadish Complex, leaving one person with severe burns. Viral Maachi (32), an office boy at Jitendra Gandhi and Co, lit a matchstick, unaware that the cylinder was leaking.

Hearing Maachi’s cries, some people rushed to the spot and called 108 emergency ambulance. Macchi was taken to SSG Hospital where is being treated for first and second degree burns.

Such was the impact of the explosion that both the front and rear walls of two offices collapsed. The wreckage was scattered across residential buildings spread within 100 feet from the complex. Another office adjacent to the two offices too suffered damages. The flying debris even shattered the glasses of a luxury bus that was passing on the road near the complex

“The cylinder was leaking overnight. Maachi lit the matchstick to perform the routine prayers at the office.” said a fire brigade official.

“I was coming towards the complex when I heard a loud explosion above my salon. The blast was heard some 300 metres from the spot,” said Meena Gadiya, resident of New VIP Road.
