Dwarka doctor dies in office fire
Updated: 2015-11-27-00:18
A 40-year-old doctor succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday evening after allegedly burning himself while preparing tea in his office on Saturday. Police sources said although it appears to be an accident, all the video recorders in the nursing home are missing since the incident. An inquest has been initiated to ascertain the cause of death.
Police said the doctor, Kailash Chandra, owned the nursing home. On Saturday evening, neighbours heard Chandra calling out for help. They found the clinic locked from outside. When they broke open the doors and got inside, they found Chandra lying burnt in the hallway.
He was rushed to a hospital, where doctors said he had suffered more than 70% burns. His family members were informed and he was transferred to Safardarjung Hospital where he died.
Police suspect that Chandra might have left the burner of a gas cooker on, while he went looking for a lighter. By the time he came back, the gas had spread in the room and when he turned on the lighter, the fire broke out. However, the room was not burnt. His family members have alleged a foul play behind his death.
Chandra had installed six cameras around the nursing home, which were all found damaged, police said.
