25 rescued after fire breaks out in Pashan building
Updated: 2015-12-01-12:08
Panic gripped residents of a 10-storey building on Pashan Road when smoke caused by a fire that broke out inside the building duct on Monday afternoon began billowing.
The fire brigade safely rescued about 25 residents, who were stuck on the sixth, seventh and the eighth floor of the building. No one sustained injuries.
Gajanan Pathrudkar, fire officer of the Pashan fire station, said the fire broke out inside the duct on the sixth floor of Orange Life building around 11.30am. “Prima facie short circuit could be the reason behind the fire as the wiring for electricity supply to each flat in the building was inside the duct,” he said.
The duct was closed. Moreover, the doors of the terrace on the 10th floor were shut. “As soon as the smoke started emanating from the duct, the residents panicked and rushed towards the top floor,” Pathrudkar said.
Meanwhile, the fire had spread on the steps of the sixth, seventh and eighth floors of the building. Due to fire and thick smoke the residents were not able to come down from the tenth floor. “Our team immediately rushed to the spot and doused the flames. We broke the window panes in the passages for an outlet to the smoke. We safely brought down about 25 people from the 10th floor,” Pathrudkar said.
