Fire at RBI regional branch

A fire broke out inside a stock room of the Reserve Bank of India’s regional branch in the city on Sunday, creating panic among guards and other staff. The officials said that there was lot of cash near the stock room when the fire broke out, but it was contained before it could spread. The fire officials have launched a probe into the cause of the blaze, but they say that short-circuit might have triggered it.
Some security guards got alarmed when they saw smoke emanating from the second floor of the building situated on Takhteshahi Road around 4 am on Sunday. The floor had a stock room and cash counting machines.
The security guards informed the police and fire brigade immediately.
The guards had managed to control the fire and the fire tenders doused it within minutes.
“The fire may have been caused by short circuit in a fan on the second floor, but we are still investigating the cause, to be sure. No major damage to property was reported,” said a fire department officer.
