Updated: 2015-12-02-00:49
Residents of Rohini who had left their vehicles in a parking lot near Block-7 were in for a shock when they came to collect them on Tuesday morning. Most of the vehicles had been burnt beyond repairs while several others had been severely damaged in a mysterious fire.
Three fire engines were rushed to douse the flames. Police said that a probe is on and foul play has not been ruled out.
The incident was reported when one Mukesh Singh went to collect his Maruti Swift from the parking lot beside a mall.
The residents pay a monthly charge of Rs 500 each to a parking attendant, who is missing since the incident.
Locals said the fire seemingly began from a vehicle parked in the middle of the lot and spread. It is also suspected that someone sprinkled inflammable materials on them.
Cops from Mangolpuri police station along with a crime team went to the spot and lifted evidence. A total of 11 cars were found fully burnt, while another 12 vehicles were partially damaged.
Police suspect foul play as the ignition switch of none of the cars was on. It appears to be a plan to clear the area of vehicles after setting them on fire. A search has been launched to track the missing parking attendant. A case of causing mischief by fire has been registered.
