Calangute apt fire causes Rs 4L damage

A major fire broke out in the apartment of a Kashmir native at Calangute on Monday afternoon. A loss of Rs 4 lakh was reported. There were no injuries.
Pilerne fire station officer Namdeo Dhargalkar said the station received a call at 3.43pm on Monday reporting a fire in an apartment on the third floor of a residential complex at Khobravaddo, Calangute. The fire was extinguished by 5pm.
Dhargalkar said the owner of the apartment, Abdul Majid Dhar, a native of Kashmir who runs a business in Calangute, was not present in the apartment at the time of the incident but rushed to the spot after neighbours noticed smoke billowing from within.
A large number of household items, including clothes, furniture and electronic appliances, were charred in the blaze. The owner has estimated the damage at Rs 4 lakh. Firefighting personnel managed to save goods worth Rs 6 lakh, Dhargalkar said, adding that the exact cause of the fire could not be ascertained. A short circuit is suspected.
Anil Talankar, Suraj Shetgaonkar, Shyamsunder Patil, Umesh nimlekar, Prashant Sawant, Gaurish Naik, Nikhil Sawal, Dattaprasad Sinari, Sandeep Patil and Laxmikant Salgaocar were also part of the operations. tnn
