Updated: 2015-12-19-11:56
Several rounds of fire were exchanged between a group of unidentified auto-lifters and police during the early hours on Saturday in West Delhi’s Janakpuri area. No one was injured in the firings, but the accused managed to flee in a car. Several pickets have been raised and raids are being conducted to nab the identified assailants.
The incident took place around 3am, when a team from Janakpuri police station led by SHO RS Meena had laid traps at more than 10 locations to nab the group of miscreants which had recently been lifting luxury cars, including two Fortuner and two Innova cars from the area.
Senior officials said that it was around 1.40am, a swift car with registration number DL4C CA 8333 was spotted with its headlights on in block A1. As a car bearing same registration number was reportedly spotted on the intervening night of Thursday-Friday, suspicion of the policemen grew and the vehicle was intercepted.
“When the policemen got down from their vehicle and went towards the car, the car sped towards the policemen and fired multiple rounds. The cops also fired back at the assailants but the miscreants hit the police vehicle and fled towards Nazafgarh road,” said a senior police official.
Officials said that there were four men in the car and efforts are being made to identify and arrest them.
