Short-circuit causes fire in IAS officer’s flat

Chaotic scenes were witnessed at the high profile Samarpan Towers in Navrangpura when a fire broke out in the servant’s room of a flat on the seventh floor, reportedly due to a short circuit.
Deputy municipal commissioner M Thennarasan lives in the said flat. According to sources, the officer was away on duty when the incident occurred. Sources said Thennarasan’s family members rushed out of the flat on seeing smoke in the servant’s room. Neighbours too hurried to the flat to seen if everything was alright Thennarasan said there was a short circuit in the servant’s room of his official flat, which caused a small fire.
“Technicians rushed to the flat and sorted out the fault. It was not a big fire,” added Thennarasan. However, sources said some household goods were charred in the fire. It is worth noting that the ten-storeyed Samarpan Towers were built just about three years ago.
“With each floor having four flats there are 40 flats in the tower. Many high ranking government officials, including IAS and IPS officers and judges live in the tower,” said one resident of the building.
