Updated: 2015-12-28-00:11
Fire broke out at a hosiery unit in New Madhopuri area and a thread mill in Kanganwal area on Sunday evening. However, a major accident was averted as owners of both units said the fire did not spread to other parts of the buildings.
Vishal, owner of Vishal Oswal Hosiery, said the hosiery unit was closed due to Sunday. He added that the fire started in a room where some machines were kept and the loss was yet to be ascertained. “As of now, we don’t know how the fire started,” he said, adding that before fire brigade reached the spot, residents of nearby areas came forward and tried to douse the flames due to which the loss was minimized.
In the second incident, owner of the thread mill in Kanganwal area Kuldeep Singh said employees were working in the unit when the fire broke out. He added that the fire did not spread to other parts of the mill. “The reason behind fire and the loss is yet to be ascertained,” he added.
Meanwhile, a fire official said two fire tenders were rushed to the spots after getting the information and the flames were doused in an hour in both cases.
