Man electrocuted, suffocates to death as house catches fire
Updated: 2016-01-06-17:06

A 55 year old man, suspected to be drunk, died of electrocution before suffocating during an accidental fire that broke out inside his Kuvempunagar residence, Ramamurthynagar, East Bengaluru, after Tuesday midnight.

The deceased has been identified as P Madhavan, who worked at odd jobs and lived with his son M Lokesh, a tile-laying mason.

The accident took place between 12 midnight and 1 am when Madhavan tried to light a mosquito coil while standing near a switch board.

“The switch board seems to have pulled the fire and instantly electrocuted Madhavan. Soon, there was a fire and Madhavan was half burnt before fire tenders reached the spot,” Ramamurthynagar police said. His son Lokesh had gone out for work and was laying tiles at a construction near KR Puram.

Seeing smoke emitting out of the single bedroom house, neighbours called firefighters and a fire truck was rushed to spot. “We shifted Madhavan to KR Puram government hospital where he was declared dead on arrival,” police added.

A widower, Madhavan lived with his son Lokesh, police added.
