2 vehicles catch fire in Mohali housing society

A fire destroyed two vehicles following a cylinder blast at an underground parking lot of a locality in Sector 70, spreading panic among residents.
People spotted sparks coming out of the SUV parked near the grilles of the parking lot in Ivory Towers near B block around 1pm. Before they could inform the owner, Karan Partap, the vehicle was ablaze. Society members tried to douse flames but within seconds a cylinder kept in it blasted. By the time Partap reached the site, the SUV was gutted. Another car parked barely 2 metre away from the SUV also caught fire that spread across the floor with flames covering the stairs from one side too.
The owner claimed he called the fire brigade over phone but was connected to the Chandigarh fire station. Mohali firefighters arrived after 30 minutes. Luckily, no one was injured but stones were thrown on balconies of residents living on the upper floors to make them aware about the incident. Sources said the society had no valid fire equipment. SP Ashish Kapoor too reached the spot to carry out the investigation.
