One Dies, Three Others Sustain Injuries After Crane Overturns In Damansara

PETALING JAYA, Jan 12 (Bernama) — A construction worker from China was killed, while three others were injured after a crane they were using overturned at a flyover construction site in Damansara here Tuesday.
The dead is Li Yi Jia, 50, while those injured are a local, a Myanmar and a Chinese nationals whose identities have yet to be ascertained.
Kuala Lumpur Fire and rescue Department senior operation commander Muhammad Firdaus Khan Anwat Khan said Li and two others were on the crane, which was believed to be overly-loaded, when it overturned at 4.50 pm.
“Li died at the scene, while the two other workers escaped with minor injuries,” he said.
Muhammad Firdaus said the 25-member rescue squad from Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Sri Hartamas and Hang Tuah fire stations had to take about two hours to retrieve Li’s body as it was trapped between the platform the victim was using and the overturned crane.
Li’s body was retrieved at 7.18 pm and was taken to Universiti Malaya Medical Centre for post mortem.
Muhammad Firdaus said another victim, who is the crane driver, also sustained minor injuries.
Meanwhile, an eyewitness who wanted to be known only as Wan, 34, said he was shocked when he saw one of the victims being thrown on the ground as the crane overturned.
“I heard a very loud noise like the crane was accelerating before it overturned,” he said.
