Minor among two hurt in factory fire

A 12-year-old boy and his father were critically injured after a fire broke out in a factory at Jahangirpuri in northwest Delhi on Tuesday morning. The injured were identified as Jatin (12) and Dinesh (35).
“We received a call around 1.40am and four fire tenders were rushed to the spot. The fire was not major, but smoke spread rapidly due to stored combustible items. It was doused by around 3am and the cooling and search operation continued till 6am. There were many workers inside the factory and most of them escaped in time. However, three people were trapped,” said Atul Garg, deputy director, Delhi fire services.
Garg said one was rescued from the first floor using a ladder, while the father-son duo was found lying unconscious on the staircase. “They were rushed to Babu Jagjivan Ram hospital. The cause behind the fire is yet to be ascertained,” he said.
In another incident, a major fire broke out in three buildings, including a pharmaceuticals factory, at Mandoli in east Delhi on Tuesday morning. Officials said more than 30 fire tenders were roped in and it took about four hours to douse the fire. No casualty was reported. “We received a call around 8.30am. Goods worth lakhs were gutted,” the official said.
