A fire broke out at Centenary Methodist Church on Lodhi Road late on Monday night. The fire was controlled in a half an hour and nobody was injured. Church officials didn’t suspect any foul play, said police.
The incident was reported around 10.50pm and seven fire tenders were sent to the spot. “It was doused by 11.15pm. Some furniture and a portion of the wooden structure were destroyed. The fire started in the false ceiling of the church probably due to a short circuit but the cause is yet to be determined,” said Atul Garg, deputy director, Delhi Fire Services.
Church officials said some old wires which were being replaced must have sparked the fire, said police officials. “Not much of our items were destroyed and the fire was controlled well in time. A portion of the roof and a few tiles were destroyed,” said a church official.
