Fire trucks and their crews battle the blaze, as flames gut the guts the Bangkok Rubber Plc factory in Ayutthaya on Tuesday evening.

A four-storey shoe factory in Sena district severely damaged by a fire on Tuesday evening has been declared a danger zone, off-limits to the public.

The fire broke out at 5.45pm on Tuesday on the first floor of the Bangkok Rubber Plc factory, which makes several world-renowned brands of shoes, on Sena-Sam Khok road in tambon Bang Kho Nom.

The blaze quickly spread to the second and third floors.

Fire engines from various local administrations brought the blaze under control in about 45 minutes.

The factory usually has about 2,000 people inside during a work shift. But at the time the fire began there were only about 50 workers in the building because it was an interval between shifts. One worker was injured.

Governor Prayoon Rattanaseni on Wednesday morning declared the factory a danger zone.

Forensic police and engineers from the Public Works and Town Planning Department were to examine the building today to assess the damage and the cause of the fire.
