Nearly 10 properties, including three houses and seven shops, turned to ashes in a mysterious fire in Kanchanwadi area sometime in the early hours of Wednesday, causing a loss of lakhs of rupees.
The fire is suspected to have started around 4 am and took over three hours and four fire tenders and water tankers from the civic body to douse the flames.
Police said that no loss of life has been reported in the incident and a case of accidental fire has been registered at the Satara police station.
Fire brigade authorities said that it was around 4 am that the residents found flames coming out of an electrical shop and soon alerted the residents and the fire brigade authorities. But before the fire brigade could reach and douse the flames, it had spread to seven shops and three houses located in the same row of Kanchanwadi area.
Considering the huge amount of loss suffered by the residents as well as the shops owners, senior police officers paid a visit to the spot and asked the Satara police to probe at the matter on priority and submit a detailed report at the earliest.
