Fire is visible at one of the booths at the shopping centre.
WHAT could have been a disastrous incident at The Airport Mall yesterday morning was narrowly averted, thanks to one Rhayan Gracia, who managed to contain a fire that broke out at one of the booths in the shopping centre at 10.06am.
The fire destroyed one of the booths at the Kareem Carpet exhibition, which is taking place at the Airport Mall. Gracia, who works at one of the bubble tea stores near the exhibition area, recounted details of the incident.
“I was working at the store when I heard a commotion. At first I thought that the Cosmopolitan College of Commerce and Technology (CCCT) students were playing around, then I noticed fire blazing at the stall. I immediately grabbed the fire extinguisher to put it out, before it could spread to the other booths.”
The owner of the clothing booth told the Bulletin of his shock on hearing the news.
The booth was closed at the moment of the fire, and the owner is still unable to assess the total damage caused by the incident.
According to one of the eyewitnesses, the fire was caused by sparks from a malfunctioning electrical lamp at the booth, However, the Fire and Rescue Department is still investigating the cause.
