Constable charred by room-heater fire
Updated: 2016-01-28-01:07
The charred body of a Delhi Police head constable was found in a store room near Paschim Vihar police station on Tuesday. Prima facie it seems the fire was caused by a room heater.
The incident came to light when one of the cops from Paschim Vihar police station went to check on head constable Hari Kishan (51). He discovered the body lying beside a coal heater, which was also burnt. Kishan was rushed to a government hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. Police sources say Hari Kishan had sustained 80% burns.
Investigations suggest Kishan had lit the heater, which was kept beside his chair and fallen asleep. Some time during night, the shawl he had wrapped around him caught fire from heater. Officials said Kishan was deputed as a night guard at the store, which kept records of seized vehicles.
He stayed alone at Police Lines in Rajouri Garden while his family members stayed at a village in Himachal Pradesh. They have been informed about the incident and an inquest has been initiated.
