Empty WR coach catches fire in Mahalaxmi workshop
Updated: 2016-01-30-17:07
A empty coach of Electrical Multiple Unit (EMU) rake caught fire during the maintenance work at Mahalaxmi workshop on Western Railway.
This is the second instance of fire in rake in two weeks. On January 24, a mentally unstable man had set on fire a rake stabled near Churchgate.
WR spokesperson said, “Nobody was injured as the fire was doused in five minutes. Since the incident happened in the workshop, there was no impact on the train operations either.”
A WR official said sparks while carrying out welding may have come in contact with oil, thus causing fire.
He also said that financial losses due to damage to the coach are yet to be assessed.
