Lone fire accident survivor dies in hospital

Dinesh, the lone survivor of the Vyasarpadi fire incident, died in the burns ward of Kilpauk Medical College Hospital, on Saturday. A fire, possibly triggered by an overheated cellphone and an LPG cylinder leak, at 5am on January 25, had killed Dinesh’s parents Rajendran, 52, and Rani, 45.
Dinesh sustained 53 % burns. Dinesh was doing fine till Saturday morning, his sister Nithya said.
“On Wednesday, he opened his eyes, asking for our parents. We told him that they were undergoing treatment in another hospital. We felt Dinesh could not handle the news of their death. Yesterday , doctors told us that the infection from the injuries had increased and he was in a critical state. He had fever last night and was given tablets.Today morning, he spoke to me and asked me to take care of our parents. But he said he was able to breathe and did not have fever. An hour later, I received a call saying he passed away,” Nithya said.
